Where Transformation Is The Goal ...

Where transformation is the goal, there are things to learn from industry.

Every industry, including education, has unique characteristics. But no industry, including education, is exempt from the tenets involved in making transformation happen. These tenets form the implementation blueprint for education reform. We help educators develop and implement these blueprints.

Transformation is a measurable and leader-driven process. It affects "core" businesses processes, which for schools occur inside the classroom. So long as our classrooms remain black-boxes, the workings of which are not measurable, true transformation in education will remain allusive.

Collaborative Time & Learning (CTL) is a non-intrusive methodology that illuminates the strategies teachers are using in their classrooms. The resulting data helps teachers reflect on and intentionally improve their strategies, and the process supports a culture of teachers helping teachers be more effective.

Moreover, CTL supports a central Total Quality Management tenet which demands that "core business processes" be objectively measured. Consistent with this TQM principle, CTL produces objective research-based indicators of what is happening inside our classrooms. For the first time, the stage is set for educators to begin analyzing root sources of variability among our schools; the first step onto the path of transformation.

Collaborative Time & Learning (CTL) is trustworthy because the data are objective and research-based indicators of what teachers do, not subjective opinions of others; it is sustainable because of the recurring value that comes from a teacher-helping-teacher way of working; and, it is viable because it is a powerfully efficient and economic way of working. Reactions from some CTL schools explain the benefits further.

Transformation: A Leader-Driven Process
Transformation: Incremental, Not Big Bang
Transformation: Operation, Not Administration
